Pt 3 - Trip to Kuching - Cat Museum

Kuching means Cat in Malay language. Kuching is also the name of the capital city of Sarawak, one of the state in Malaysia. It was also famously referred as the Cat City. In fact, you will see many cat statues built around the city. If you first time visiting Kuching and a cat's lover, it will appreciate my recommendation to visit the cat museum. You will find many collections of cats in various forms and designs. Many are contributed by the royal families, locals or special collection from overseas... some are artifacts and priceless.

I have captured some cats photo, i hope you will like it.

The famous richest cat that you will see in most of the restaurant is the "Chew Choi Meow", which means that Cat that attracts prosperity. I think it's origin are from Japan.

Beside that, I like the Chinese version ... some made by clay, very unique and it is not easily found in market. They are priceless, I think.

You can also find more westernize ....

Tigers have been referred as big cat ..... you may find some tigers in the cat museum too.

And I had found a mirror on a wall, so I shouted at it, "Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the handsome afterall ? " Do you know what, my face appeared, if you don't believe, check out the following photo ... ha! ha! ha! .... LOL!

I have spent almost 2 hours plus there, as a photo enthusiast, there are so many cute kitties for photo shooting. I really love it but the time is not allowed for me to stay longer as my family members are waiting impatiently ... LOL, quick!! better run .....

and lastly, I took an exterior look of the museum before I went off ....

Btw, don't expect the whole place is cat museum, this building is Kuching North City Hall, the museum is just occupied at lower ground floor.

Pt 2 - Kuching Trip - A Living Museum

Our country, Malaysia has rich cultural diversity with multiple races like Malay, Chinese and Indian. More so for Kuching which consists of various tribes, mainly, the Bidayuh, Iban, Penan, Orang Ulu, Melanau and many more .... it has made Kuching full of rich cultural heritage and being a city boy, I was amaze with their rich cultures and customs.

A must visit place in Kuching is the Sarawak Cultural Village, it is also called the Living Museum. It consists a 17.5 acre of land on the foothill of the legendary Mount Santubong. You can find seven authentic ethnic houses built surrounding a lake. These houses were built base on the authentic architecture design of olden days houses ... it is simply amazing, when you walk inside, you will feel like you are having a time traveling back to the old days to experience their living.
The awesome part is that you will meet many "actual" person who are the origin people of the tribe, they are hired as care taker of the house. They all dressed up like olden day in their own costume and greet you when you enter into their house. That why this place is also called "Living Museum". The village also provide lodging service where some of those houses are open for rental.

Wow ... I have taken so many photos and it is impossible to share all my photos in this blog. Well, this is a fantastic place and I have meet many friendly people. I also realized that this place is to host the world famous Rainforest Music Festival, maybe one day I will return to join the music festival.

On daily basis, they will perform two cultural shows at 11 am and 4 pm each day. I was in fact late, by the time I reached the fully air-cond auditorium, it was 4.30 pm. But nevertheless, I manage to watch some of the fantastic performance.

If you decided to go Kuching, please don't miss the opportunity.

Pt 1 - Kuching Trip - Food Food Everywhere ...

With recent flood crisis in Bangkok, I decided to change my holiday plan to other destination. Luckily the airline agreed to rebate the payment in the form of credit voucher, but I no longer enjoy low fair rate via internet booking, I have no choice but to pay for higher fair through counter booking. The value of my flight ticket to Bangkok was "depreciated" in value (and unfairly "cheated" by Mas Airline), I only allowed to exchange to a domestic flight to Kuching, it was really frustrated. Some more I have to top up a bit to cover the extra charge.

Nevertheless, let forget all these unhappiness and enjoy the family trip of 7day 6night stay at Kuching.

First thing I google about Kuching is their Food. Without long, I listed top five foods to eat in Kuching, they are famous Kolo Mee, Tomato Fried Mee, Sarawak Laksa, Seasfood and local vegetable called Midin (or we called Paku in KL). Thanks to FB friends from Kuching, thru their recommendations, I know how to cari makan in Kuching. Looking forward a  Food Discovery Trip ... Wakakakaka!!

A Kuching friend told me where to find the best Kolo Mee ... this is the famous Kolo Mee shop that visited by most locals ... the Sin Lian Shin.

The shop closed after lunch, I was lucky, they started cleaning up after we ordered our food.

My favorite Kolo Mee, best Kolo Mee I had in Kuching. Nice!!

Soup Kolo Mee is very tasty too
The Kolo Mee here is delicious, if you wish to try at Sin Lian Shin, you can google the location - 182 Jalan Green 93150 Kuching.

Personally, I preferred tomato mee and can easily find good tasty tomato mee in Kuching. They used big prawn, the prawns are generally bigger than KL standard and generously giving a lot more. Maybe the price of prawn is cheaper than KL.

My love .... tomato mee :)

Many people said Sarawak Laksa is good but I have tried one in the famous food court located at Carpenter Street ... it didn't impress me. I preferred  Penang Laksa.

When come to dinner, the best choice is to have a Seafood Dinner.

Top Spot Cafe located at Kuching Waterfront and is my choice for seafood. On roof top, you find few seafood stores and they are competing for business. They placed raw seafood right in front of their store for customer selection, you select your choices and get them to cook for you. Many people claimed that this place is pricey as a tourist spot, nevertheless, it is a good place for fresh seafood dinner with your friends and family.

Look at the display of seafood ... it is simply awesome!!

Food at Top Spot were delicious. The black pepper crab and belacan fried midin are yummy.

Dishes ordered in Top Spot Cafe

Beside Top Spot Cafe, I tried another seafood restaurant - See Good Food Centre (located near Persiaran Ban Hock), the food was delicious too. Especially I like the Garlic Bake Crab and Midin fried with Red Wine, not forget to mention their sweet and sour sakap fish fillet  ... Yummy.

The Shop was crowded with many locals, I guess it won't goes wrong.

We have another two nights at the northern part of Kuching, the Damai Beach. Thank to a friend's recommendation, I found a famous seafood restaurant called Bayridge Fine Seafood located at Damai Sentral. It is a fine dinning restaurant that facing the seas. The food price is slightly higher but quality is assured.

Belacan Midin
Wow, this is steam sing-pan (not cheap hor)
Salted Prawn

Beside enjoying quality food in Bayridge, the waiters served us very well and good hospitality, we ended up going back for lunch the next day ....

Kam Heung Crab

Wow ... I think I had enough of food !! ..... So so full now!! I hope you are enjoying seeing those food photos, quick!! let plan a trip and bring your loved ones to Kuching. I bet you will appreciate my recommendation ... ha ha ha !!!

Let Go Wallop

Yes, sorry to my Malay friends, this page is not halal, excuse me!!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Wallop, I think the word means I hit you .... right ?

If someone had irritated me, so I shouted " Hey, You!! Say some more, I Wallop you then you know....."

Ha ha ha ha ha!! Soli soli for my broken England!    (Ops, sorry for my broken English)

In Dictionary.com, Wallop means to beat soundly, to strike with vigorous or defeat thoroughly ..

But now, Wallop means PORK BURGER Lah ....

How can just German, we Chinese also very smart, right? because we also eat a lot of Pork .. LOLs

Just one of the normal day evening, a few of our Pen Lover buddies went to SS2 for dinner, as the time was still early, four of us who came early, decided to drop by a fast food outlet (Restoran Wallop Pock Burger) for some drinks while waiting for the rest. The big blackboard in the shop immediately catch my attention ....and also some cuttie pigs that decorated the place.

Wowwwww ... money pig :)

We meet a nice lady, the shop owner May, she is very nice and friendly, she see that we only ordered drinks and four big guys were sharing one small burger ... she is kind enough to give us another one as complimentary (partly also due to my friend Yeow giving her the impression that we are "professional photographer" and so on so on ... my face also blushing liao)

She is a smart lady, she knew how to grab opportunity to chat with her customers, she told us that she just open up the shop not long ago and the burger patties are her secret recipes ...

I would said, the pork burger tastes good, it is delicious. It is healthier as compare to others as quoted by May, she told us that she used very little of oil. For me. the only limitation is the burger a bit small, I need to take at least two to fill my big stomach.

Okay ... since May is so kind to all of us, so I help her by blogging about her shop, hope that more people would patronage this new eatery. If you are happen to be around at SS2 Petaling Jaya, give it a try, you can find it easily. It is located near the famous Chow Yang restaurant.

The End.
