First Time Modeling Portraiture Shots

To be honest, I have done street shooting, still object and macro photography before but I never-never had done any modeling shooting before. (If don't believe, check my photo album in FB)

Off course taking photo of beautiful ladies "got-lah" (better said like that, otherwise all the “beautiful” ladies that I had taken photo before would throw shoe to me .. kekekeke), but I never had a chance of shooting so called professional model that willing to pose for me while I am taking their photos. 

But, Last Saturday (21 July 2012) was my lucky day … hahaha 

Thank to Olympus Malaysia and the Pen Lovers group(a group that love camera PEN or M4/3 in FB) founder Koon Yik for initiated a photo walk session in downtown Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with the new release of Olympus M.Zuiko 75mm f1.8 lens. 

When I arrived to the gathering spot, it was already crowded with many professional photographers and photography enthusiasts (hehehe, I think I fall under the enthusiasts category only). Everyone was happily mingle around to catch up or gossiping with one another. Most talk subject was the newly launch Olympus OMD EM-5 camera.

Wow, I notice from far got a few liang luis (beautiful ladies) seated nearby …. 

“Come come come and see, got liang lui woh ..” I said to a friend, “let walk near them to shoot some shots” I suggested. 

“Hahaha!!” my friend laughed at me “Why so Kang Cheong lah (in hurry), later we got plenty of time to take their photos…..” 

Stupid-me!!, then I realized they are the models of Olympus Malaysia getting for today event …. 

"Wow!! … not so bad man" i shouted, I felt excited suddenly, luckily I did not get any nose bleed then .. hahahaha 

It was a beautiful sunny Saturday; we have divided into six groups, lead by a leader and headed to 6 different directions. Each group was given one OMD with 75mm lens to test. However, being not getting “Poison”, sorry to Olympus Malaysia that I did not take the opportunity to use the lens. I still using my faithful shooting partner, Pen EPL2 with M.Zuiko 45 MM Lens. 

We were lucky that Winnie was assigned to us. Her beautiful look was just like an innocent neighborhood shy-shy girl … 

She shyly ask us what pose we would like her to pose .. Oh My Gosh, being a first timer, I kind of hesitate and lost, luckily our leader Chun Chow gave her some tips …. then we started our journey of shooting model.

Then, the scenario of a bunch of men chasing after a pretty girl at the busiest street of Bukit Bintang came into picture(hahaha)

Many people stunned and open their mouths big-big thinking some sort of movie star having photo session at the street. 

It was quite fun …… 

Then, two Quai Lou (western tourist) saw that, they cannot resist her temptation and they were sportingly joined in ... 

After we have warmed up, our model turned proactive, from a shy-shy girl becoming a professional model. She was so good and sporting, she pose professionally and accommodate our demanding requests. She was gracefully accepted our challenges and gave the best of herself …. 

Winnie deserves a round of applause. 

I still remember we were so excited giving “instruction”, suddenly, don’t know who the idiot, said out “let show a look of angry but happy face …

Walaueh, this also can ah!!? 

so we told her to imagine thinking about buying the expensive branded bag and the boy friend hesitated to buy, what should be the look .... hahaha

I think she is telling us that she is tired and need a rest... so we let her to sit down for a while ....

Bukit Bintang locatedd at the Golden Triangle in downtown Kuala Lumpur, it is an awesome place for photo shooting .... nevertheless, we do encounter some stupid and unhappy moments with so called "authorized" personnel from the shopping mall come and disturb us, both the fahrenheit and Pavilion security guards came out to chase us away. I think both Management of this two places had gone overboard, no doubt the walkway surrounding to the shopping mall is their so called "claimed" ownership, but what wrong for people taking photo over there? (We are not taking photo in the mall, which we usually see a no camera sign sticker at the entrance). We are not obstructing the traffic neither nor we are blocking any people to walk by. In fact those photo that we took will carry their brand names, we in fact doing indirectly publicity and marketing of their shopping mall to the World. Furthermore, the shopping mall is full of tourists, how can you stop people taking photos .... 

Stupid!! sorry of my language

Even you tell me is for the commercial reason that stop people spying or stealing some business ideas / design etc ....come on, you better fire your Marketing Manager, only cheap people can think of the cheap way!!!

I really don't understand this type of narrow and brain-less mentality management? Shame on you !!

Nevertheless, we still managed to took some nice photos with Winnie at the "forbidden city".

Wow, it was a awesome day, without long, two hours have passed very fast, so we quickly finished a few shots with one demanding request to get our Winner to do a jump shot with her high heel. Hahaha

Look at this, she managed quite well with her jump shot.

We also have a few beautiful models there, so far I only taken a few photos of Berry but not the others, due to limited in time, I only see them from far but didn't have the opportunity to "Kacau" (interact with) them with my camera. 


Well, maybe later I can post a few shots of Berry but now ... Wow, so late liao ... time to sleep, tomorrow (ops... rather today) I have to work ....

Vintage Camera Encounter - Nikon FM

To be honest, I am not fan of any vintage camera. Although my father was a photographer but I never picked up any of his skills or knowledge. He is now being old, I think he also lost his interest in photography, we hardly talk about after his retirement age. In fact, I never thought of one day, photography will become my favorite hobby.

He passed me an old camera, the Nikon FM, a vintage camera which was made around 1977. First thing came into my mind was "ah yah, throw away-lah, so old and heavy, who want to use it lah !!" Luckily I did not take any action on it. 

Many years, the camera was kept in a closet to collect dust. Only lately, some photography buddies are keen in shooting film, with their influences, I took it out again and get it fix. Then, I started my film shooting journey.

This is my dad's old camera.

Nikon FM, Lens with hood was belonged to a friend, KY.

In fact, I have no idea what model of this camera, but luckily I have the vintage camera sifu, Koon Yik, he told me the model of this camera is Nikon FM. So I Google a bit, I found out the introduction of this camera in the Wikipedia and it stated like this:

"The FM was the replacement for Nikkormat FT3, which had been introduced only a few months prior. It introduced an entirely new compact, but rugged, copper-aluminum alloy chassis that would become the basis for Nikon's highly successful range of compact semi-professional SLR cameras.
These cameras were intended to provide a more reasonably priced alternative to Nikon's professional F-series cameras, which at the time was the Nikon F2. They were all-new successors to the Nikkormat F- and EL-series of amateur-level SLRs, but despite the lower price-point they continued Nikon's reputation for high-quality construction, impressive durability and measured technical innovation.
The FM has proven to be remarkably long-lived and reliable camera. Nippon Kogaku would over the next twenty-nine years use the same chassis (but with some modifications) and basic design philosophy for the FE (introduced in 1978), FM2 (1982), FE2 (1983), FA (1983) and the limited production FM3A of 2001."

Wow, not so bad, isn't it? the same chassis was used until 2001. the usage of twenty-nine (29) years had really means something, isn't it? Although the Nikon FM now is thirty-five (35) years old (it was made in year 1977), but mechanically, it's still functioning very well. I sent for a major service to Mr Wong, a well known guy who fix all sort of vintage cameras in KL(see below picture)and get a new Nikkon 50mm f1.8 lens, it starts working again.

Lately, I love taking photos using my new toy. Below are some of my favorite photos.

I realized film colors are much more vibrant and dazzling. The richness of colors gives us the warm and cozy feeling. It doesn't look like digital photo, although the digital photo is much more sharper and better image quality in term of details but I found that the colors in digital color are less "lively" as compare to film photo ... maybe this is just my opinion ... but that is how I felt .... I love the colors ...

Last year, I also took my Nikon FM to Cameron Highlands and I was so impressed with the outcome, I want to share some nice photos that I took in Cameron Highlands.

For me, sharpness of a photo is important but I am more emphasize on the feeling of "life", the film photo from my dad's old camera can bring out that warm feeling that I have been longing before .....

Yeah !! A 35 years old camera can still make the "Wow" effect, isn't it ?

KL Shooting Again

It has been a long time not having street shooting in Kuala Lumpur. Because I'm working on Saturday, I can only be jealous of my friends who can go out almost every Saturday. Finally, Yeah .... And now I started working 5 days week ... that mean I can go out on Saturday to do my favorite Photo Shooting .....

Yeh ... Time to celebrate ....

...yeah .....yeah !!!!

But ......

Ah ...... yah .....

My home minister said " A-Em .. Mr Yap, don't think you can go every Saturday woh ... you suppose to take care your son woh... Now You off on Saturday, you better responsible to take care of them .... now I can rest ....."

........

........ sob sob ;-(

Anyway, last Saturday, I got my visa to go after becoming good husband and good father .... hahahah

The morning weather was very hazy due to the heavy burning at the neighboring country Indonesia and the smoke were carried over to Malaysia and polluted our air. Light smoking smell were in the air. Nevertheless, the unpleasant smell couldn't deterrence me from the limited opportunity I had. 

I were using my dad's old film camera, Nikon FM with 50MM F1.4. Now, I'm getting like the color and effect of film photography.

 

The Great Creation of Baking Arts

I have spent 6 months learning baking in one of the local F&B college, the objective wasn't aim for career advancement, but just learning for fun and the enjoyment of baking. I had a great time learning baking.

However, after years had passed, I never progress from the art of baking ..... with recent sugar level kept hitting high in my asthenic body, making me even impossible to eat any sweet stuffs, so the enjoyment of baking no longer enjoyable and skill of baking had kept in the closet to collect dust. 

Nevertheless, I do admire the beautiful art of decorating cakes and pastry stuff. With my recent visit to the FHA 2012(Food Hotel Asia) in Singapore, it was an eye opening to view many beautiful creations. Food nowadays no longer just for eating but it also becoming like an art, let me share with you some of the photos I took in the exhibition, they are awesome, isn't it?

Wow, I felt hungry now ... time to eat
