With recent flood crisis in Bangkok, I decided to change my holiday plan to other destination. Luckily the airline agreed to rebate the payment in the form of credit voucher, but I no longer enjoy low fair rate via internet booking, I have no choice but to pay for higher fair through counter booking. The value of my flight ticket to Bangkok was "depreciated" in value (and unfairly "cheated" by Mas Airline), I only allowed to exchange to a domestic flight to Kuching, it was really frustrated. Some more I have to top up a bit to cover the extra charge.
Nevertheless, let forget all these unhappiness and enjoy the family trip of 7day 6night stay at Kuching.
First thing I google about Kuching is their Food. Without long, I listed top five foods to eat in Kuching, they are famous Kolo Mee, Tomato Fried Mee, Sarawak Laksa, Seasfood and local vegetable called Midin (or we called Paku in KL). Thanks to FB friends from Kuching, thru their recommendations, I know how to cari makan in Kuching. Looking forward a Food Discovery Trip ... Wakakakaka!!
A Kuching friend told me where to find the best Kolo Mee ... this is the famous Kolo Mee shop that visited by most locals ... the Sin Lian Shin.
The shop closed after lunch, I was lucky, they started cleaning up after we ordered our food. |
My favorite Kolo Mee, best Kolo Mee I had in Kuching. Nice!! |
Soup Kolo Mee is very tasty too |
The Kolo Mee here is delicious, if you wish to try at Sin Lian Shin, you can google the location - 182 Jalan Green 93150 Kuching.
Personally, I preferred tomato mee and can easily find good tasty tomato mee in Kuching. They used big prawn, the prawns are generally bigger than KL standard and generously giving a lot more. Maybe the price of prawn is cheaper than KL.
My love .... tomato mee :) |
Many people said Sarawak Laksa is good but I have tried one in the famous food court located at Carpenter Street ... it didn't impress me. I preferred Penang Laksa.
When come to dinner, the best choice is to have a Seafood Dinner.
Top Spot Cafe located at Kuching Waterfront and is my choice for seafood. On roof top, you find few seafood stores and they are competing for business. They placed raw seafood right in front of their store for customer selection, you select your choices and get them to cook for you. Many people claimed that this place is pricey as a tourist spot, nevertheless, it is a good place for fresh seafood dinner with your friends and family.
Food at Top Spot were delicious. The black pepper crab and belacan fried midin are yummy.
Beside Top Spot Cafe, I tried another seafood restaurant - See Good Food Centre (located near Persiaran Ban Hock), the food was delicious too. Especially I like the Garlic Bake Crab and Midin fried with Red Wine, not forget to mention their sweet and sour sakap fish fillet ... Yummy.

The Shop was crowded with many locals, I guess it won't goes wrong. |
We have another two nights at the northern part of Kuching, the Damai Beach. Thank to a friend's recommendation, I found a famous seafood restaurant called Bayridge Fine Seafood located at Damai Sentral. It is a fine dinning restaurant that facing the seas. The food price is slightly higher but quality is assured.
Belacan Midin |
Wow, this is steam sing-pan (not cheap hor) |
Salted Prawn |
Beside enjoying quality food in Bayridge, the waiters served us very well and good hospitality, we ended up going back for lunch the next day ....
Kam Heung Crab |
Wow ... I think I had enough of food !! ..... So so full now!! I hope you are enjoying seeing those food photos, quick!! let plan a trip and bring your loved ones to Kuching. I bet you will appreciate my recommendation ... ha ha ha !!!
The end.

ReplyDeleteThanks Dee, love the food in Kuching. Miss the Midin especially as it is hard to find in Kuala Lumpur :)
ReplyDeleteFood is one thing. You really should try some authentic traditional food by traveling all the way down to Batang Ai. Only then you will see both food and culture. Give it a try next time when you come down to Sarawak. Those are just a few of it.
